Use it for a bit… It strips text of formatting, grabs from the web via Service, edits, organises and space-bar in Finder tells you some info about your doc. Best of luck! …It's simple, here's how:
The simplest cycle is:
Make a 'New' document that is blank → press 'Return' to create a new idea → type its title → press 'Tab' → write its content and press 'Command-i' to go to the Ideas list once again. Use 'shift-Return' to rename a selected idea in the list.
This lets you quickly save ideas for editing later, to make them more interesting when you have time. Shift-Tab will also take you back to the list from the note.
Hover over any UI item to see a tip on what it is used for; these Tips are also localized in 39 languages for you
Use the "Idea Knot Help"item in the "Help" menu within the app for details
When you paste text into an idea, you get it with text formatting gone, so you can edit your content without being distracted. See this 30-sec video how: Wish to focus on content and not formatting?
Get useful text from inside your Groups super-easy:
Drag and Drop one Group into another app's text to get all its content into that app's text instantly, with no extra formatting. This does not trigger with the 'All Ideas' group.
So I build my content piece by piece, with AI snippets, comments, quotes, insights, lessons, news, research, poems, lyrics or whatever you like
Then I Drag and Drop it wherever I want it later into another text app for making it look pretty or putting it online
I can make different versions in different order using different groups in their document, even using the same idea more than once in the same group
I can use any of my Ideas in any group + however many groups I want, all at the same time, all by simply dragging and dropping it into any group
Reorder Ideas or Groups by Drag & Drop. Reorder does not trigger in the 'All Ideas' Group
Drag and Drop text into a Group or its Ideas from another app to create a new Idea. Either from that other app's text selection or even selecting text from inside your Idea and then dropping it directly into the Ideas list once again, which let's you be creative when inspiration hits you and you think of something that you want to explore further. Yo u must name it with a title to ensure you're more productive later-on.
Color helps distribute unused ideas:
Click the 'Color' button in the upper right corner of the Ideas list when the 'All Ideas' group is selected in order to easily see what ideas you have not used in any group just yet. Then you can easily use them in any group by Drag and Drop. This is a productive way to make sure that you don't leave anything out of your final content.
Catch web snippets INSTANTLY from your web browser:
With the 'Services' menu in your web browser's main menu, while you have something selected in a web page you can press a command-key shortcut and catch that text in an Idea Knot document. You then type its title quickly and move-on. Turn this on in your Idea Knot document using the'Receive' checkbox in the bottom right corner of that document.
'Copy' to Tell Your Social Circle, quote this to Spread The Word…
"Do yourself a favour and spend 50 cents and go buy it, use it and let me know what you think… Go to its website “coldpointblue dot com slash ideaknot” and click on the app store link at the top, buy it and use it for a bit. It strips text of formatting, grabs from the web via Service, edits, organises and space-bar in Finder tells you some info about your doc. Best of luck!"

Best tip:
You can Drag and Drop a Group into a different text document in another app and it will copy all of that group's content exactly as it is into that other document. You can also Copy and Paste a group for the same result. When you Deselect then Select an idea again you strip all its pasted text of any formatting, to edit without distractions.
Services help you:
You can also use 2 of the 4 Idea Knot Services from a different app's 'Service' menu, to copy different pieces of Ideas from groups in several documents at the same time. Use the popup menu at the bottom right for that. Details are futher below.
Web snippets with a useful Service:
You can turn on the 'Receive' checkbox in any open document to get INSTANT SNIPPETS from the web using a command-key shortcut if you wish, using the same Services menu in your web browser. Name each as-you-go and go back to browsing.
This is useful to me when using AI chat because I can select only a part of an AI answer snippet and quickly catch that for repeated use later-on. Scroll up above to see a screenshot. This is great when doing research on a topic with which AI is your preferred method.
Advanced tip, merge ideas from different documents:
Instantly merge your content within ideas from a document with a colleague's ideas a in a different document, by opening both documents and then using their "Group Transfer" popup menu at the bottom right to choose what to merge from the selected Group.
You can either choose to take only the titles of the Ideas in a document by using the 'Keys' option in the popup menu, or whole Ideas with both their titles and their content using the 'Contents' option in the popup menu. If you choose to turn-on more than one document, each will contribute to the total copy going into the pasteboard. You can use this to merge YOUR titles with THEIR contents.
Note that the order in which you enable a document might make a difference depending on whether you have equal amounts of content or not, that is why a number appears to the left of the menu when you make a choice, to give you a visual cue about what order their information will be processed in when merged.
I use the "Group Transfer" option sometimes to to take titles from one document's selected Group and apply the content of a diferent document's selected Group to them. So they will all have topics I want with text contents from a different Idea Knot document that someone else created. The titles do not have to match, only the order in the selected Group matters.
Tech tip about how export using 'Services' helps BOTH You on the CREATIVE side + your tech colleagues:
You can export content from several documents at once as explained above, into either JSON 'Service' option or to XML with the 'File' menu. This helps you if you work with creative stories and narratives used in computer games or other some-such because the programmers have tools that process that data easily, provided that it's in the right format. So this export feature helps you on the non-technical side to write creative content and put it in a format the tech folks can EASILY use. Without forcing you to use uncomfortable tools when you write that get in the way of your creative process.
Open any Idea Knot document
Select a Group with content to merge or copy from that document. You cannot use the 'All Ideas' Group for the 'Group Transfer' service, so select a different Group from the Groups list on the left.
Choose one of the options in the "Group Transfer" popup menu in the bottom right to specify which content you want, either the whole group including titles and content using the "Contents" option, or only its titles instead by using the "Keys" option.
Use the Services submenu in a different app's main menu (the one with the app's name in the menubar) when text is either selected in that app, or you are editing text there… Look for the 4 different Services that begin with the words 'Idea Knot" inside that app's Services submenu.
'Paste' the merged or copied content in the other app after using the Services menu to see the results of what you merged.
View the Summary of a whole Group:
Using the 'Combined' tab you can see the Summary of a Group, which shows you the content of all its Ideas.
The button above the text JUMPS to the next idea. To go backwards, shift-click the same button, scrolling to its title automatically.
Use the 'Search' field at the top to find Ideas by Title or by their Content, after you find them and jump to them, you click this same 'jump' button to continue to the next one from there. Shift-click to go backwards.
Jump within Summary is useful when you're talking to someone else and you're going through material that you've prepared for the conversation, going through Ideas quickly and easily without wasting time beause they scroll into view instantly with just one click.
Find text within ideas and scroll to it automatically when you press "command-shift-f" and a Find/Replace bar appears at the bottom of the text in either the Summary if you are in the 'Combined' tab, or when you're inside the text editor of an Idea if you are in the 'Separate' tab.
